When a deer’s antlers fall they grow back, regenerate, and renew themselves. In the same way, when humans fall, we have the opportunity to regenerate and renew, setting off on a journey of self-discovery - growing, evolving and transforming.

Under My Skin is a deeply personal solo exhibition by artist Karley Feaver recording her journey of self-discovery following the tragic end of a relationship. Opening at Allpress Studio on the 2nd of December, it features works exploring intimacy, relationships, duplicity, the uncertainty of identity, unpredictable behaviour and acknowledges the animalistic inheritance within the human condition.

Feaver says, “We have an incredible ability to survive by adapting, mutating and adjusting to our current environment, much like nature does. And just like animals we develop new skills and evolve until we come out the other side lighter and hopefully enlightened. It’s this environmental and emotional flexibility that gives humans and animals the opportunity to adjust to changes during our lifetimes”.

Under My Skin, which runs from the 2nd until the 19th of December, takes viewers on this survivor’s journey using taxidermy where the animal forms act as metaphors and visceral interpretations of the experiences and behaviours that occurred in her relationship. ‘For me, this show has served as an incredible outlet to put my life experiences thus far to use in a positive and therapeutic way. It’s an exploration of things I have witnessed, experienced and felt - loss, tragedy and a documentation of my spiritual journey. It’s about pain, denial, trust, love and happiness. Topics, I think, all humans can relate to at some point in their lives because we only ever see what’s on the outside, and this is a look at what’s underneath”.
